Fines are calculated relatively to your average income per month excluding taxes. A billionaire was caught going 60mph in a 50 zone and was fined 2.5 million. It's similar to a percentage.

The RIAA won't be able to go on like this for much longer, with news stories like this popping up all over the place, they have lost the PR war against file sharing, and with out the general public backing them on any moral or capatalistic grounds, they won't go far, as now people that do buy music either won't by RIAA backed records or just fully turn to p2p to get their music.  I've even heard of a group that is getting together to sue the RIAA for direct and punitive damages. RIAA has hurt themselves in this 6 year suing frenzy, and now that they are showing themselves for the mafia-like orginization that they are, they will soon be public enemy number one.

The digital revolution has come, really its been here for years now, and the RIAA is just having trouble accepting it, but they aren't big enough or smart enough to stop it or slow it down, really, in my opinion, they've been a big help in getting the public behind p2p software.

And here's the wiki page on the case from above, its got all the songs she was in trouble for:

$80,000 for Reba McEntire......
