So I went to the premeir for District 9 last night and was very impressed with the movie.  I'm not going to spoil it, but do yourself a favor and go see it.

Once it's been out for a few days, lets talk about it here.  There are a lot of very interesting implications in the movie.

I really enjoyed it.  It was slow in places but I wouldn't go so far to say that it was boring.

It built a good story, and I'm hopeful for an action packed sequel?

Actually it's a video game story, i think ha. In the front, told you the background of D-9, then..... kill, next scence, kill, next scence.....

But i like its concept design, cool.

District 9 is easily the best sci-fi flick I've gone to see in a very long time, it feels good to see the genre get some real meat back. The movie was originally a short done by Neill Blomkamp (the director) and after the Halo movie fell through (Blomkamp was supposed to direct that), Peter Jackson decided that he couldn't let this talent fall through the slats in the floor and they started work on broadening the ideas in NB's short. And of course we all know a District 10 is on the horizon (Blomkamp has even said that he really wants to make it, and seeing how well District 9 has done... you can do the math)

Though I was a bit dishartened when I heard some people in the theater get confused about where Johannesburg was, I mean, the aparthied allegory is a huge part of this movie, and not understanding that the movie is set in South Africa, you loose a big part of what the movie is. Those that forget history are destined to repeat it.

Jen that was a superb post.... and i love how you directly addressed the central theme of the movie (which seems to be lost on many).  It's nice having you around again.

District 9 was amazing in just one word to be honest.

Im really glad that this was made rather then the Halo movie (which District 9 was spawned from a canned halo movie).

I love every aspect of it, and easily the best sci-fi flick so far this year.

I watched it only because of the above posts, and I have too say it's an incredible movie. At the end it leaves you wanting more, I really can't wait for some sort of a sequel.
