Nevernight: Chapter II

As the man lied on the floor , the sand clock was becoming lower on time. At that point the man decided to switch it over and let the sand run from the larger portion. As he stepped up to the watch , the one in the mask didn't even concern himself with his actions while drinking his tea. He turned the watch upside down , and became scared , the sand was now falling up to the larger portion instead of falling down.
- Gravity has no meaning here... - the masked one answered - yet if you wanted more time all you needed to do was ask...
With those words he slowly stud up and was now straight above the young one. While suturing his cup , he took out the spoon and shuck it off sending a drop flying up that fell on the young ones neck. Placing the spoon on the dish that held the cup he drank it and some smoke began to raise from the plate that surrounded the man and made his a tat dizzy and as he fell back he fell asleep. At then he heard voices.
- Doctor he's losing too much blood!
- Get him hooked up we need to cepe him alive as long as possible!
"What is this?Where am I?" He began to ask himself. But at hen he couldn't cepe his eyes open and fell into the darkness. Falling backwards he felt as if he was drowning in a sea being pulled down. Then he felt that someone was pulling him up. As he woke up the masked one was standing next to him and shaking him by the collar.
- That should be enough , I cant let everyone go back to life now can I? - he said as he let go of the man lying on the ground.
- What was that? - the man asked.
- That was your life when you were still alive , about two and a half hours before your clinical death - the masked one answered.
- You said "return to life", what did you mean by that?
- Well take a look at the watch you'll soon understand.
As the young one sat up he saw that the watch was now more than half full. The sand was even falling a bit slower.
- If you want to go back to your life you could always find the key thats left in this world - he explained.
- I can live again?
- Only if you find the key, plus you'll need a bit of help if you want to leave this place. So here's a hint, Don't look forward cause you wont see it.
- What do you mean I wont see it - the man stood up - there's nothing behind me - he stated as he stepped back while turning around. As soon as he stepped back his face rammed into a solid wooden object and he fell back to the ground unconscious.
- There he goes again - The masked one said while watching the man fall back. - These young ones get weaker every century ...
After a few moments the man woke up as water splattered all over his face.
- I hope your happy now I'll need to get some fresh water from the other side, plus this was from a holy spring ... be grateful - the masked one said.
- What the hell was that? - he asked while sitting back up.
- Its a door , invisible to everyone yet only opened when you cant see it ... - the masked one explained - its kind of shy you see.
- What are you talking about there ain't no such thing as an invisible door, are making fun of me - he stood up walking back to the watch and once again hit his head into something and fell down.
- I take that back there just becoming more foolish with every generation.
This time he didn't pass out so there was no need to wake him up. As he rubbed his head he stood back up.
- So you weren't joking me? - he asked.
- Of course not - the mask one explained - I told you you can only open it if you cant see it.
- Then how do I open it?
- Reach your arm out backwards...
The young one lifted his arm and reached it out behind him. He felt a solid wooden thing behind him, as his hand slided up the door he found a handle that he turned to the side and the door began to open up. As he pushed it open he turned around to see a tunnel going on, it was dark and hard to make out how far it goes.
- Well then - the mask one lifted his white hand to wards the door - I guess you must be on your way young one.
- Will I really be able to return to life after I find this key?
- We'll see when you find it.
The young one began to walk down to the darkness in the tunnel when he heard from behind him.
- Give my best regards to the two those two brothers! - the masked one shouted to him while way wing as the door began to close on its own.
Before the boy turned around to take a look the door shut itself and the tunnel was flooded in darkness. He could barely see his own hand in front of his nose. As the tunnel drowned in the darkness the young one walked along the road while suddenly a scream came from below him as he felt that he stepped on something.
- Youch!!! - a loud scream sounded.
- What is it Yan? - a voice came from the side as if it was from behind a corner.
- This fool stepped on my tail.
As the boy looked down there was a little withe circle near his leg. Then as he turned to where he heard a voice he saw a white cat like figure come out from behind something , it had a black circle on its face.
- Now , now dear boy, you must have manners , look where you step next time.
- Manners are you kidding me!!! my pour tail , I'll rip out your worthless eye's!!!
- Now if you did that you couldn't blame him again if he stepped on your head.
- Will you ever stop complaining Yin damn your more like a female then a male...
The boy was baphaled what was going on as he could not see anything except the white figure of a cat.
- Are you two brother's? - he asked.
- Yeah we are!!! so what of it - the loud voice that was called Yan answered.
- I was told to give you a masked mans best regards - he answered.
- Ohh ... You wouldn't happen to be just from the "Purgatory"? - The voice that was named Yin asked , that seemed to come from the white figure.
- Yeah I am... - the boy answered.
- Then that explains everything ... - Yan said , it seemed as if he was rather annoyed with that fact - Every time your kind comes from there there's only more trouble for us.
- Well then I suppose we should show you the way out - Yin began to talk - this way you wont get lost , your kind doesn't see well in the dark so just follow me.
The boy followed the white figure through the tunnels for several hours till they finally reached a turn that seemed to shining with light. The one called Yan followed as well complaining about the fact that the boy stepped on his tail. As they came to the light source there was a costumed figure standing near a wall, holding a pipe. The light was coming from a room in the tunnels. When they came in the room the needed a few minuets so his sight would adjust. Once they did he saw that the voices that were talking with him were two cats. One that was leading was a white cat with a dark circle around its right eye and the one complaining was a black cat with a white circle around its left eye. Then he turned to the figure near the wall. It was a man like costumed figure with a long pipe. As it turned around he saw that it had a skull for a head and diamonds for eyes and as it sucked in from the pipe a big cloud of smoke came from inside the costume.
- What do I have hear , guests - it began to talk - this rare seeing that you two brothers weren't around here for several months.
- Well this boy here need to reach the surface and we do need to get to the great event in the Adrian fields - Yin explained.
- So the masked one sent me a boy ... - for a moment the skeleton stood still while sucking in another cloud of smoke that came from inside its costume. - This is a sight to see , our last visitor only came about a hundred years ago and that one wasn't so bright.
- What did you do with him? - the young one asked.
The skeleton let out a great cloud and loughed as he lifted its bony hand and pointed at a chest at the corner.
- I did give him a chance yet he didn't bother to take it ...
